A realistic flight simulator set in war times

The IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 bundle includes IL-2 series content such as the expansion packs, forgotten battles and alternate history battles. The game also has widescreen support. There are 32 new flyable fighters, and there are four new enemies.

More planes, maps and content

The new enemies have their own personalized AI, which adds an extra challenge to the game. Fly your realistic fighter and bomber planes to complete missions. Maintain your flight path and pick out your targets. The enemy AI is as good as ever. If you make a mistake, the enemy will exploit your weaknesses and destroy you. IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 has new campaigns and new maps. There are over 1000 new paint schemes that may be applied to the game’s aircraft. The graphics still hold up well, even when the game is played on a widescreen monitor.

There are 229 flyable aircraft to try

If you have enjoyed previous versions of this game, then you will be very happy with the IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946. The bundle gives you yet more to do and adds up to 100 hours of extra gameplay if you try out all the aircraft, new maps and new missions. The game requires a lot of patience because some missions require almost an hour of flying just to complete a five-minute seek-and-destroy mission. If you have the patience and a love of aircraft, then you should try this game and its expansion packs.

PROS

  • It offers a nice balance between realism and arcade action
  • There are more than enough aircraft types to try

CONS

  • Flying aircraft for up to forty minutes to reach a target is a little excessive
  • Some missions end too quickly because the enemy AI is too smart
